After approval from U.S. and Brazilian authorities, the new American and GOL codeshare allows customers to seamlessly connect to 53 GOL flights via GIG, Sao Paulo (GRU), Brasilia (BSB), Manaus (MAO) and Fortaleza (FOR). Ultimately, a deal with GOL is better than nothing, but it`s hardly a substitute for losing LATAM. GOL is Brazil`s largest airline, although it only operates 737 and doesn`t have true business class, so it won`t be the most attractive option for many high-end passengers. Late last year, it was announced that Delta would invest in LATAM, which led LATAM to sever its relationship with American. Latin America is a market where America has historically been dominant and now needs to rethink its entire strategy. It`s better than nothing, but I hope this codeshare will expand and hopefully GOL will take off to more destinations outside of Brazil. It could be a good partner for Qantas if they fly to Brazil in the coming years as part of their Sunrise project. Through GOL AirlinesGOL Airlines, Brazil`s largest airline carries more than 33 million customers a year. It is also a leader in the leisure and business markets in the country.
In its 19-year history, the airline plays a key role in the democratization of air traffic in Brazil and has become the largest low-cost airline in the sector with the best rate in Latin America. It currently offers 750 daily flights to more than 100 destinations – in Brazil, South America, the Caribbean and the United States – with a standardized fleet of 125 Boeing 737 aircraft. The company maintains strategic alliances with Air France and KLM and offers its customers 14 codeshare agreements and more than 77 interline agreements offering more comfort and ease in the connections with each location served by these partnerships. With the goal of being the first for all, GOL has consistently invested in products, services and customer service to provide the best travel experience. #NovaGOL reinforces this concept and presents a leading company in different aspects – punctuality and comfort with the increased offer of seats and more space between seats; connectivity and entertainment that offer the most complete platform with free internet, movies and live TV; the offer of VIP lounges for domestic and international flights; the best loyalty program on the market – Smiles; and customer service, recognized and loaned by various organizations such as the Brazilian ANAC (the National Civil Aviation Authority of Brazil), the consumer protection website Reclame Aqui and the Brazilian Forum for Customer Relations. . . .
